SWFL Pride 2017

October 7th’s Gay Pride Celebration is now the 9th annual event for Southwest Floridians. This year’s SWFL Pride endeavors to celebrate being PROUD. The intention for this year’s SWFL Pride is to promote being proud of the unique individuality of all members of the SWFL community, and in so doing promote a mentality of peace, acceptance and love. It is imperative that the diversity which makes SWFL such an amazing place to live is celebrated in harmony, showing that where there is love there is strength in unity.  2017’s Annual SWFL Pride invites all who are looking to enjoy a day in sunny SWFL to join their LGBTQ+ community for a fun filled day of rainbows, relaxation, refreshments and PRIDE.

This year’s SWFL Pride Festival and vendor marketplace will be held on October 7th from 12 Noon – 5:30PM on the grounds of the Alliance of the Arts, located at 10091 McGregor Blvd., off Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers.

The festival will include plenty of on-site and nearby free parking. SWFL Pride is a family friendly event, the vendor market will include service organizations, local and national community organizations, social organizations, area non-profits, supportive religious organizations, games & activities, shopping plus plenty of food and drinks. Additionally, the amphitheater stage will be filled with fabulous entertainment, featuring renowned artist Jaimie Wilson, B103.9’s DJ Mad Mel, Kelly Neff, DJ Kooshie, DJ Ajar, local drag queens and kings and so much more!

Pride-SWFL is also tremendously pleased to announce that back by popular demand is the extension of the festivities! On the Sunday following SWFL Pride, Pride-SWFL will be sponsoring a T Dance. The theme for this year’s Tea Dance coincides with the theme for SWFL Pride in a celebration of sunny Florida and a recognition of the Pride that fills each year’s annual commemoration, through a coming together in an expression of resilience. Attendees will join in dancing, fun, and good music. There will be a cash bar, drag show and featured DJs such as DJ Mad Mel, DJ Kooshie, and DJ Ajar.

Pride-SWFL was created in August 2009 out of a grass roots effort to put on a community festival to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City. Pride-SWFL started with approximately twenty individuals meeting in living rooms and representing local businesses, clubs, organizations and colleges. Within only six weeks, with no money, little experience, and only a few posters to get the word out, they put together and hosted a four-hour festival including a stage packed full of entertainment, and over 30 participating vendors.

Last year, SWFL Pride introduced the Goldberg Award as a celebration of the strength of the individuals who stand against adversity and fight for the basic human and civil rights that should be afforded to all. Pride-SWFL will continue this tradition by recognizing the new recipient of this award at this year’s SWFL Pride.

Now in our 9th year, Pride-SWFL proudly points out the fact that we are still a 100% volunteer based organization! This event would not be possible without the generous donations from community members, supporting businesses, and people like you. PRIDE-SWFL is a 501(c)3 non-profit membership organization founded to produce the Annual Southwest Florida Pride Event. Pride-SWFL is dedicated to education, commemoration of LGBTQ heritage and celebration of LGBTQ culture and liberation.

Spread the word and invite everyone you know – let’s make this the biggest and best Pride Southwest Florida has ever seen!
